Meet Tawana

Like so many women, I struggled for years with carrying around more weight than I’d like.  As a result, I was never completely happy with the body image I saw in the mirror.  I was constantly on one diet or another, and although I would lose a few pounds here and there, I never could seem to keep the weight off.

As I built my career in corporate America, I held various management roles- the pressure of which ultimately caused me to be overly stressed and completely addicted to sugar. Every time there was pressure at work – or in my personal life – my sweet tooth would flare, causing me to reach for food. I spent my entire day meeting the demands of my clients, my managers and my direct reports. There was a never ending pressure to get more done with less resources and of course, the daily “urgent” deadlines, the conference calls, the last minute meetings and the email inbox full of unread messages. By the time I fought the commuter traffic and dragged myself home, I couldn’t fathom going into the kitchen to cook ANYTHING-much less a HEALTHY meal. Between the bagels and doughnuts brought in for the morning meeting, the pizza and subs brought in for the afternoon meeting and my daily visit to the vending machine, I realized that I had spent the last several years LIVING on convenience foods.

As I had climbed the corporate ladder of success, my weight climbed as well.

All of my best laid plans (there’s a new diet out-I should try it!) and continued plans to get to the gym (who has the time or energy for THAT?) continually failed me and left me with a longing to return to the “old me”.  The woman I was…

  • Before I started working long hours…
  • Before I had a two hour commute each day…
  • Before I got the promotion…
  • Before I was tied to a computer screen and Blackberry all day…
  • Before I had all of life’s added responsibilities…

FINALLY-I  determined that I was tired of looking and feeling the way I did. I decided that although my job was important, my health was MORE SO.

What did it matter if I had the career success and financial success, if I wouldn’t LIVE to enjoy it?

I made the decision to stop living on FAKE and DEAD foods and to change what I ate. By feeding my body different foods, my mood lifted, my cravings ended, I lost the weight and I gained the confidence of knowing that I had the power to create a life that made me happy professionally and personally. I began to formally study dietary theory at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition-the only nutrition school that focuses on a holistic approach to health, while teaching all the major dietary theories and health counseling training.

Drawing on this knowledge, I can help you create a completely personalized “roadmap to health” that suits your unique body, your lifestyle, your preferences, and your goals. I created Transcendent Wellness to help women understand exactly how and why personal choice directly affects their everyday quality of living. It really is easier than ever to look and feel fantastic-if you only know how.
